Last November, we held our eighth writing retreat at the well-maintained Lagoon Resort in Mukono with its white sand beach and lush garden with tall trees. The retreats offer a place to hone writers’ skills. The students were exposed to independent writing sessions, group workshops, and one-on-one sessions where they discussed their writing projects and plans, and got valuable real time feedback from the tutors. Sumptuous meals were served to get the writers’ creative juices flowing. There was time to unwind and watch the sunset and also go on a nature trail walk in the forest of indigenous trees seated on over six acres. It really was a time to relax and rejuvenate, away from the noise and fast pace of the city.
“There’s so much more to a book than simply writing it. The thought to paper, the creation of characters, their protection, the marketing and finally the sale and satisfied look of the reader…” –Akiteng Isabella, co-founder of FemmeForte. Read about her retreat experience.
“The quality of writing reflects how much attention the writer invests in the process…” – Maria Birungi, inaugural Nevender fellow. Read about her experience here.
“Writing refreshes you, it brings your inner thoughts, feelings and emotions to be shared with the rest of the people…” Sam Kirabo, CivSource Africa
